Fanfare, family and flame-grilled burgers on the BURGER KING® launch menu

Cape Town, 2 May 2013: The world’s most famous burger, the WHOPPER® sandwich, today arrived at Cape Town International Airport, welcomed by a crowd of fans and media, who have eagerly awaited BURGER KING®’s (NYSE: BKW) arrival in South Africa.

Travelling with a VIP entourage, The WHOPPER® sandwich is set to open the first BURGER KING® restaurant in the country following a week of official engagements and appearances in the Mother City.

BKW one of the world’s largest hamburger chains, will open its doors in South Africa on Thursday 9 May. Capetonians will be the first to sample the US-based group’s famous flame-grilled burgers at its flagship restaurant at 33-On-Heerengracht.

The rest of South Africa will get their hands on the WHOPPER® sandwich shortly after, with BKW rolling out restaurants nationally from next year. BKW a global chain of quick service restaurants, currently serves 11-million customers every day in 88countries.

The launch in South Africa forms part of BKW’s aggressive expansion into high-growth emerging markets. The chain, which was founded in 1954 in Miami, opened in Russia and China last year and in Brazil in 2011. South Africa will also serve as the launch pad for BKW into the rest of sub-South Africa Saharan Africa.
